Weekly CPU & Video Card Price Guide: May 2002 1st Edition

Introduction

Back after a not so short leave of absence, today we bring back a much missed feature of AnandTech: the price guides. This marks the first CPU and video card price guide since February of this year and, needless to say, things have changed.

As always, we publish this article to help you, the user, find the best deal on current technologies without having to scour the net. Finding the best deals can not only be time consuming but also frustrating. Not only does one have to search various places to find the best price, one must also take into consideration the reliability of the vender; what good is finding an extremely low price if it takes weeks to come or does not come at all? As always we encourage the reader to investigate every retailer's reliability before ordering, but we have eliminated typically problematic ones from our price guides.

This Week

Obviously, the price guide today looks much different than it did over 2 months ago. February's highest end Intel processor, the Pentium 4 2.2GHz, has been replaced with the newly announced Pentium 4 2.53GHz. Besides the new additions to the Intel line, all other Intel chips fell in price from the last time we looked at them, some drastically.

On the AMD side, the story is the same. The previous performance kind, the Athlon XP 2000+, has been replaced with the new Athlon XP 2100+. Prices on older processors fell, as one would expect them to.

The video card chart gets some new editions this issue, including cards based off of NVIDIA's latest GeForce4 GPU.
