if 7600 pcb = 6600 pcb then it would be reasonable to expect the same pipeline structure? (3 vertex, 8 pixel)
doesnt that seem a little dated considering the x1600 is going with a 5/12 structure?
although I already cant remember (structurally) why the x1600 sucked eggs
also, isnt the 6600 series still running 128 bit memory interface? the traces for that would definitley be related to pcb and not just the core

I think the only thing you can take from the 7600PCB=6600PCB statement is that the memory bus will have to be the same. The pipeline structure would not be dictated by the PCB.
The major point is that cardmakers can drop the 7600 chips right on existing PCBs and ship them quickly.
As for the X1600 suckage, I think ATI's choice of 4 texture units & render backends on 12 pipelines is the culprit. Those pipelines are waiting on the rest of the card. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2552...">Anand's chart

... to talk about this in the AT forums. Oh where have they gone....At least this shows us that it will be 6 months to a new mid-range card which we hope will be worthy of the 6600GT (a great card itself).
